Message from the Director (June 2017):
Listen Up Brunswick County's Season 4 has ended with tremendous success. Attendance was at an all time high. It seems, we are now on the radar for agents, performers and, most importantly, music lovers. We are very thankful for all of our loyal listeners and financial supporters that made this a possibility. Ticket sales and contributions have enabled us to make a $1000 donation to our 2017 dedicated charity, Hope Harbor.
We are well on our way to filling the 2018 calendar for Season Five. We anxiously look forward to another great season. As our attendance has grown, we are expanding the number of shows next season to six, one each in January, February, March, April, October and November. The Listen Up Brunswick County board has decided to hold the ticket prices to $20.00 (including NC sales tax) again in 2018. We will again offer a discount to season ticket holders. A season ticket purchase will entitle the holder to tickets to all six shows for the cost of five ( a savings of over 17%). In addition season ticket holders will be entitled to reserved seating. (This is not an actual numbered seat, but a cordoned off area at the front of the venue for season ticket holders.) These perks will be available through December 15th, 2017.
I am happy to share the dates and performers confirmed at this point. It is important, however, to realize that although we do our best to stick to the original plan, unforseen circumstances can require adjustments.
2018 Tentative Schedule:
January 20 - Bob Lind
February 2 - Lucy Kaplansky
March 11 - The Kennedys
April 8 - The End Of America
October 20 - Vance Gilbert
November 10- Jeannie Jolly
Season tickets can be obtained through our website, listenupbrunswickcounty.com via PayPal or by check made out and mailed to : LUBC P. O. Box 133 Supply, NC 28462. Individual tickets will go on sale later this summer.
The On-going Quest for Performers:
I have a long list of potential future acts which I am always adding to. My husband and I just got back from Nashville where we had the pleasure of hearing some of Nashville's royalty. Although not a household word, Jonelle Mosser is on the top of my bucket list. She has been a studio musician for many years, has released several of her own recordings, written many hit songs and has a love of performing I am not sure I ever witnessed before. She is a vocal gymnast. The downside is that she does not do much touring. I will continue to stalk her.
We will be back in New Bedford, MA in July to attend a two day music festival. We have attended this festival for many years and have found many Listen Up Brunswick County performers there. We also plan to go to the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in downtown Bristol TN/VA in September. Our kids have gifted us with tickets to 30A Musical Festival in South Walton, Florida in January. We look forward to hearing many new to us performers. Merle Fest and Floyd Fest are on our future festival list.
I would love to hear from you if you have a favorite musician that you think is a good match for the Listen Up Audience. Please feel free to send me details.
The Board of Directors has also decided to align our future gift giving to benefit the arts in Brunswick County. In 2018, we will be working with the county schools to support music by scholarships, instrument rental, instrument lessons, programs conducted by our performers etc.
And please don't forget about the Jack Williams show scheduled for November 4, 2017. Tickets are available by mail and through our website via PayPal. Purchase by September 15th to receive $2.00 off the ticket price and seating in the reserved section.
Have a great summer. I look forward to seeing you all at another wonderful Listen Up Brunswick County event.
With great gratitude for your support,
